Does Patriotism Still Matter? Essay

Patriotism is a choice. Although many Americans think that everyone should believe what history books tell us, that is not always the case with some. Because of this, the populace is enraged. What happened to a free country? What happened to being equals? So many people have made their own history; have dreamt a dream that moved us through history.
The little bits and pieces of love have built up our world. So, who are we to have to choose to be a patriot when some people don’t want to? Humans in the early ages made it a point to stand out, to make this country the best. Although that is true, weren’t they also repelling prejudice? It’s an absolute contradiction to say you are a patriot, but completely deny the fact that what makes up our country is not red, white, and blue. It’s us.
We make up this country. Don’t we want to be a patriot in our own manner? Of course, everyone that is sane is thankful for what our soldiers have done. Why do we even have soldiers? Why is there war? For example, remember when there was a difference between black and white? There still is. What was the point to that war, then? There is still someone being left out because of their skin. There are still racist comments everywhere.
So, does patriotism still matter? Yes, of course it does, but it doesn’t escape the fact that these mini-wars between brothers is killing the nation. Murder, perhaps. One hand shake can change everything. A brother is a brother, and nothing could ever change that. Except you.
